Community Library: Highlighted Results

  • The library currently has over 250 inscribed members and provides services to dozens of other clients who are not officially inscribed.
  • More than 40 students take advantage of the library's services on an average daily basis.
  • 100's of local residents have not only been aided in their research for school and work-related projects, but they have also been instructed in library research and other basic literacy techniques.
  • There are more than 1,500 books in the library to date including reference works, literary works, children’s' books, and works on history, math, science, physics, geography, geology, paleontology, anthropology, sociology, business, marketing, economics, biology, health, medicine, human rights, and law.
  • Special internet and computer classes given to dozens of local children
  • Cheap internet and computer access provided to 100's of local residents
  • Full time employment provided for 4 local teachers

Computer Literacy: Highlighted Results

  • High quality internet and computer access provided at the price of just 4 Quetzales an hour
  • Average of 4 clients served on a daily basis
  • Average of 6 internet hours provided to the Nebaj community on a daily basis

Afterschool Program: Highlighted Results

  • In a recent survey with the parents of the After School Program participants, 100% stated that it is important to read aloud with their children at home 
  • Students ages 3-6 participate in daily circle time, lessons in reading, art, math or science, center time, and a daily read aloud.
  • Students ages 7-12 participate in a daily read aloud or sustained silent reading, daily lessons planned around a monthly theme, writing and art classes once a week, and English classes (given by a native English speaker) three times a week.
